PM: Govt to ease foreign tribunals’ access to work in Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, May 16 (PRIME) -- The government is preparing a bill to ease foreign arbitration institutions’ access to work in Russia, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

“The Russian government is currently preparing a bill, which makes it easier for foreign arbitration institutions with a well-established reputation to get the rights to administrate disputes in Russia,” he said.

Medvedev said the problem of quality of international justice has become very urgent.

“We all really need consistency in judicial practice. The lack of double standards in the work of international tribunals. We need effective judicial protection based on universal procedural principles: competitiveness, equality of parties, credibility and completeness of evidence, independence and openness of judges themselves,” Medvedev said.

“Today we really need to agree on fair play rules that will be respected by all players. So that professional lawyers, individuals, and entire states could trust the fairness and predictability of the international dispute resolution system.”
